I don't think so. Nothing personal mind you, I just don't think his heart was ever in it. Al Gore always wanted to be the cool kid in class, no matter what it took, he wanted to be the the prom king. And with his movie and Global Warming campaign he made it for a few years. I think he would have been in the completely wrong place to do what he wanted to do with his life. Being president isn't about yourself...it's about the people. The perfect president's highest quality would be selflessness.

@bronxbomber428 better tun the guy who didn't beat him but still won.

@Kaalec And some of our politicians are trying to import it. Our Prime Minister's party recently tried some hard U.S.- style attack ads. Luckily, the outcry from Canadians across the country, and including members of the same party, was so great that the ads were pulled after two days. So far, we keeping your destructive, extreme polarization out. But it's getting tougher.

It's sad that in America right now, there is so little civil discourse among politicians of all stripes, but I have to say, I find Obama's and Clinton's behaviour exemplary compared to the incredibly personal attack ads launched by Republicans (unfortunately, we see a lot of your TV up here in Canada). But the tone of American politics is shrill and mean-spirited. Minister's party

@tbone8111 "How badly the world needs a Jed Bartlet right now"
Yeah, instead all it got is Obama. Damn reality.
-
you tell them Bartlett!!!!
-
JB420, how dare you suggest that Carter, Mondale, Dukakis and Kerry are not as impeccably noble and heroic as Bartlet!
-
Some of the writers have SAID that, yes. And I understand their burning desire to provide a romantic background to their private political preferences.
If only the actual TIMELINE did not contradict their story.

Unfortunately, even the voters in his home state--the state which he represented for 16yrs and which his father before him represented for 32yrs--disagreed.
One must be really really awful to get rejected in favor of an intellectual mediocre who often could not even pronounce correctly in his own first language.
Too bad. If Gore Jr had won TN, then FL would have been irrelevant.
Gore wasn't that bad. In fact, I bet Gore would have been an awesome President.

I think what is missing in the real world politics is politicians doing a real honest clean campaign instead of going backdoors and slandering opponents.
The Santos VS. Vinick campaign showed us two politicians who are refuses to sacrifice their integrity to win the Presidency, like when Vinick refused to use Leo's death on Election Night as a step-stool to win over Santos, and I think that is something that the American people wants to see in their future leaders in real life.
