Each year there are about 10,000 car crashes in Oman resulting in 680 deaths and 7550 injuries. The causes of these crashes include speed, driver neglect, tiredness, drunk driving, overtaking, weather, sudden stops, safe distance, improper acts, vehicle condition, road condition and cell phone use. Omans road traffic death rate is 28 per 100,000 population which is far higher than the global average of 19 killed per 100,000. Driving in Oman said to be quite easy, especially since the completion of a six-lane superhighway connecting Muscat and Nizwa and Sur. Many people drive 4 whhel drives to see the secnic countryside.
