More than 500 votes cast in the November 2006 election were not counted in St. Joseph County, Indiana (home to South Bend, Mishawaka, etc.) Citizens sought an explanation from the Election Board. This is how they were treated.

I was at the meeting before this one and i know 500 and some votes may seem pointless to some. I knew on the other hand he was not gonna win! But the idea was to get 2% of the vote as a write in and then the greens would have automatic ballot access next election! For ST. Joeseph county we only needed about 400 votes to get 2% This wasnt about not counting insignicant votes it was about denying ballot access turn off your TV and get Involved Defeat the one party Republicrats!
Did you know that in order for the voting machines to count a vote the person running must be officially registered in a race and not simply stand up at a party and say "hey I'm running for ... come out and vote for me!!" You shouldn't be so quick to judge who is to blame when in actuality those who didn't show up to the polls are at fault along w/canidates who failed to follow steps in registering themselves to be on the official ballot.
Yes, we are well aware that official registration was necessary: there were 3 registered candidates (a Democrat, a Green and a Constitution party candidate) who DID register and DID receive votes in many other counties across Indiana. This is public record and has been documented. The St. Joseph County Election Board failed to count legitimately cast votes, period.
The FACT that our local Election Board failed to count legitimately cast votes only adds to widespread belief that participating in the electoral process is a pointless endeavor. This is the fault of public officials who failed all of the citizens of St. Joseph County. Please consider reading the articles published in the South Bend Tribune linked in this video's description.
I just spent the weekend with some people who worked on Howard Dean's 2004 campaign and this video reminds me of what was done to Dr. Dean in Iowa that year. The video of his speech was manipulated to amplify what has become known as "The Scream". That being said, I stand by my original comment concerning this video.
Point taken. By way of additional explanation: Citizens approached the Elec. Board for several months in a row beginning in January. After being repeatedly put off, it was only at the April meeting that someone resorted to bringing a video camera. At that meeting the board decided to stonewall, encourage us to 'see an attorney,'and summarily dismissed the issue in under 5 minutes.
To summarize: We collected plenty of documentation that was ignored by the Elec. Board; we did the 'objective documentation' and were dismissed with th suggestion we 'see an attorney.' Thus, we are reduced to art.
While you may have a legitimate complaint (there are three sides to every story), posting a heavily edited video on Youtube does not do much to further your cause. A more straightforward, documentary style account of the hearing would be more informative and would also appear to be more objective.
I agree, more videos should be made. Let me say this though. I voted and it wasn't counted. This "heavily edited video" simply furthers my rage at the indifference elected and non-elected officials have toward my vote not counting. A more informative video, appealing to all parties, sans coffins, showing how if anyone wrote in any name it would have nulled their vote, should be easier to show off the straight trippin attitude these yahoos have.
