@treetoptop Agreed Bruce lacked alot of class there
-
@treetoptop Never saw that. I guess those parts were cut out on the Youtube version I saw. I didn't even know Wilhelm beat Patera in Tug of War.
-
@khalsasikh I will give you one example, there are many more in the 1977WSM. After Bruce beats Ken in the tug of war, Patera says something to him like " I never knew 30 pounds of fat could make such a difference." Although Ken and Bruce are friends and that type of banter was fairly lighthearted, the insults Bruce laid on Don the next year were very crude and in very poor taste. There are current interviews around with Renhoudt, where he says that he was very upset with the way Bruce acted
-
@treetoptop I watched the entire 1977 WSM, and not once did I hear Patera talking like that to Wilhelm.
-
@khalsasikh I never said Ken and Bruce were not friends. I said that Ken talked crap to Bruce all through the 1977 strongest man show, calling him fat the entire time. When Bruce started in on Don in 1978, that was a response in my opinion to the ribs that Ken put out the year before.

@r0llskyay0 Also, it is an extremely difficult event and it really wears out the competitors. I think they decided that lifting weight off the ground is a better indicator of pure strength. Armwrestling used to be part of it too.
-
@treetoptop No, that's not true about Patera. He and Bruce are the best friends. Whoever told you this is wrong.
-
Thanks for posting this. Don is my dad and it's really nice to see this old footage again.

@extreme65anime Putski was a strong wrestler and a strong man, but could never compare with the bulk and power of a guy like Don Reinhoudt. He was just too small. Don was world class power, one of the strongest ever.
they need to bring back tug of war
