NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION
NATHAN, a nine-year-old boy, is on the phone with one hand and with the other hand he is opening the refrigerator, pouring a glass of milk, "She wasn't here when I got home."
We cut to CHERYCE, who is at one end of the news room. "Honey, can you just stay put. I'll try to find her." NATHAN objects, "What about dinner?" Cut to CHERYCE,
"Just don't go outside. Okay baby? I love you." She hangs up the phone to find OLIVIA standing over her, "Jack wanted you to have this." CHERYCE looks down, "What-" In her hand is a list of names and phone numbers. OLIVIA says, "If you're going to be here, you might as well help us track down leads." CHERYCE says, "Olivia-" "Don't,"
OLIVIA says. Their eyes meet. "Did you ever figure out what took her to Rome?"
CHERYCE asks. We see KATHRYN in her hotel in Rome. It is where Kerry stayed. She searches and finds some receipts. She finds a train receipt to Minsk.
FLASHBACK: (nighttime) a filled newsroom is standing silently looking at CHERYCE BOUNDS on the television. Nothing can be heard but her news report on the television.
"Our people on the scene captured this footage. So far there are reports that two firefighters have been hospitalized with injuries. All Metrocity fire stations responded to reports of explosions in the early hours this morning. The warehouse is home to the printing press for the Metrocity Times. The future of the paper is now uncertain and calls to officials have not been returned..." JACK responds angrily, "What calls?!!" Sound returns to the newsroom. Reporters begin to talk with each other. DINO breaks in, "Sir, Cheryce Bounds left three messages." JACK answers, "And this wasn't important enough--" DINO continues, "not considering, sir." OLIVIA puts hands a phone to JACK.
"It's Kathryn. I wouldn't say anything."
KATHRYN: "Hi Jack. I'm in Rome. Don't ask. I need your help. I need to get to Minsk."
JACK: "Minsk?!!! This paper is not sending you to Minsk without more information on what you are doing! You always bring back good stories and this paper has been very good to you.
KATHRYN: "You have done very well by me."
JACK: "Yes, I have. And, I've grown rather fond of you and I don't need you running off to some foreign country where you don't speak the language and getting yourself killed for the story." The Camera pulls back and JACK is staring up at the television news."
KATHRYN: "So you'll help?"
JACK: "What do you need?"
KATHRYN: "I need a flight to Bucharest and then a train connection to Minsk."
JACK: "You're not going to tell me are you?"
KATHRYN: "Send all the information and a confirmation to my phone."
JACK: "She's going to Minsk through Bucharest!"
KATHRYN prepares a bath.
JACK, with phone still in hand, watches the blaze on the television.
KATHRYN smiles in the tub.
The scene dissolves into a later scene from the same angle. Now, CHERYCE is in the background (beyond JACK). She is on the phone. OLIVIA: "Jack, what are you doing."
JACK: "What? Thinking... What is she doing." JACK stands and walks toward CHERYCE, who is on her mobile phone... the list of numbers before her. "well, he's there alone. This is not okay, Diane!" CHERYCE hangs up the phone, angrily. JACK: "If you're going to be in my newsroom, start acting like a reporter and help us figure out what happened at the warehouse. This was no accident!" CHERYCE: "What about
Kathryn?" JACK: "She was headed to Minsk. And no, I don't know why."
KATHRYN is in her cell, writing on the floor.
