Drilling a perfectly centered hole in a wooden sphere is really tricky, unless you know this shop tip for drilling them perfect every time. A WoodWorkers Guild of America (WWGOA) original video.

  • This is the perfect setup for a classic mind-&%$# problem-

Let's assume wwgoaeditor did not tell us the diameter of the drill. You do not know it is 3/8", nor the diameter of the ball.

Now, he drills a 2" long hole through the exact center of the sphere.

What is the remaining volume of the sphere?

This is one of my favorite mind benders- You can solve this at least 3 ways without calculus.

I offer this as tribute to the usefullness of wwgoaeditor's innovative centering solution!

  • Brilliant idea! Thanks

  • SMART!
