Now I have almost 20 years in the fire service and have seen my share of stuff.............Stupid question.............Who grabs a PPV fan 1st when they roll up on a working structure fire??????????? Never saw that before...................

@jpicha06 Poor tactics? They had the fire knocked within two and a half minutes of the first engine setting their parking break. Had a second line off, got a 360 done...doesn't go much better than that. Just because it's not how you do it doesn't mean it's wrong.

setting up the fan before an offensive attack is called positive pressure attack. look into it,it works.

Its almost comical reading " in 20 years in the Fire Service blah blah blah. If the use of a PPV amazes you I have some more incredible news. They have computers INSIDE of firetrucks now. I know crazy huh. Pick up a book on Firefighting next time your sitting in the hall. You don't become a better Firefighter watching Three's Company reruns ...

@gulpster1 quite a common tactic in europe, but we don't do exterior ventilation and especially no roof ventilation on a daily basis.

The hell are you people going on about? How is it wrong to grab a PPV before a hoseline? Maybe, just maybe they all have assignments for when they arrive on scene.

Have any of you questioning their tactics ever thought about that?

I was wondering the same thing about the fan?? Nice quick interior attack.. Instead of grabbing a fan I might have thrown a ladder and got a hole chopped.. Either way quick knock down.

They pulled a fan because they did what is called positive pressure attack. It has it's positives and negatives. Check out some of the PPA videos on youtube.

not saying that this is wrong cause you may have a reason for doing this but on a working building fire why would the first guy off a truck grab a fan instead of a 1 1/2 or 2 1/2? it just seams like backwards logic to me that you would give the fire O2 before you go in to fight the fire. not saying it was wrong just want to know what the reason for it is because i was tough different

There was enough manpower on arrival to put the fan in place and the ppv worked exactly as it should have and it was a quick knock down on a room and content.As for the comment fans kill people??? If they are used wrong they will.
