The zEnterprise mainframe server and a new systems design allows workloads on mainframe, IBM POWER7 and IBM System x servers to share resources and be managed as a single, virtualized system. The new mainframe is also the most powerful and energy-efficient mainframe ever. With the ability to manage workloads across systems as one, the IBM zEnterprise System can provide significant savings, while extending mainframe qualities, such as governance and manageability, to workloads running on select POWER7 and System x blade servers.

  • There is a statement of direction to allow Windows on System x blades on the zBX. Current view is it will GA 4Q '11.

  • Really cool. But should be the server or what?

    greez TheBlackPhantom.

  • @TheBlackPhantom95 This is a hybrid architecture which includes the z196 or z114 servers and the zEnterprise BladeCenter Extension (zBX) which allows blades to be attached.

  • Clock Spreed and CPU count only tells a small part of the Z story. If you have hundreds of server. Most underutilized and some hammered beyond Wintell Capacity. Z is your box. In some cases at less than replacement cost of the Servers and software. The Data-center space and power savings are yours to pocket.
