yes! Hadley had a beautiful lyric tenor. I heard him in the opera house in Chicago. Alexander was very good but more a cover in his day and very good anyhow, he had that top with ease. Hadley was excellent in lyric roles . Sad tragic ending to his life too soon.
My cousin says I'm descended from Percy so I guess that gives me moral authority over this aria. I like it! I forgive Jerry for skipping some top Cs. The part was written for Rubini who even then when tessaturas were higher was considered something of a freak. Many roles he introduced had to be transposed down for other tenors.
Splendid. In particular, note Hadley's full, free sound and lovely mezza voce. The only other version I've heard was by the fine American tenor John Alexander, who took some higher options that Hadley did not. But overall, Hadley's version is superior. And his voice was definitely more beautiful than Alexander's --
Jerry Hadley was one of the greatest American tenors of the 2nd half of the 20th century, and his death was tragic. I still find myself affected by it. I was in the chorus of a production of <Anna Bolena" - 1990, I believe - with Summer Opera of Washington, D.C.. and enjoyed every minute of it. The rehearsal, staging, costumes, etc. Rest in peace, Jerry. You deserve it.
vorrei sentire Florez in questa aria.

No, but he was a student of my teacher and the technique that I now teach during that time. So I do understand what you mean.

If you know the tragic circumstances of his own death, hearing him plead in this piece with Rochefort to choose life is just crushing.
