Who is Himanshu Kumar? What is Vanvasi Chetna Ashram (VCA)? Why is the state government bent upon throwing out this man? What did he do before the state of Chhattisgarh demolished his ashram on flimsy grounds and before he sat on this fast in defiance? What about the four woman who were raped and hundreds others who have, or will share the same fate? This is a crash course on a man who heeded Mahatma Gandhi's call of the rural wild and settled in Rural India, did amazing work for 17 years in relative anonymity, only to be forced to go from the state by an administration scared of a man bent on exposing them through peaceful and non-violent means. Activists, Civil Societies, Human Rights groups and Tribals love to love this man. While the state of Chhattisgarh, the police, the Salwa Judum, Multinational corporations and central government love to hate him. How has this man caused so much stir and why despite visible and palpable danger to his life, he stands his ground in defiance. This is Himanshu Kumar on Himanshu Kumar.
It's the age old battle between the high and combined mighty who have both weapons of mass destruction as well as the ones for mass deception, versus penurious foot soldiers armed with nothing but their enthusiasm for justice. Who will win? Obviously the mighty state, unless a miracle happens. And that miracle is Public outcry. How that will happen, I have no idea.
