  • I'm in a similar predicament with my conroy. The transom needs full-on replacement because it's weak. I fear that I'll have to pull the "cap" off the boat in order to access the punky wood +replace with new laminated wood.

    That motor of yours looks great. Considering what you said about the gas mileage, I may buy the same merc 90 or maybe a 115.

    This motor is from 1986 where the 90hp was rated at the prop. In the 70's this same motor was rated at 115hp at the crank. This motor was virtually unchanged from the mid 60's to the late 80's. The newer motors have CDI ignition and the older motors have points. That's about the only difference. Plus the only difference from my 90hp to a 150hp or a 175hp is just the carbs. Cool eh?
