President Obama released a statement at 11:43 PM ET:

Tonight, in an historic vote, the House of Representatives passed a bill that would finally make real the promise of quality, affordable health care for the American people.

The Affordable Health Care for America Act is a piece of legislation that will provide stability and security for Americans who have insurance; quality affordable options for those who don't; and bring down the cost of health care for families, businesses, and the government while strengthening the financial health of Medicare. And it is legislation that is fully paid for and will reduce our long-term federal deficit.
Thanks to the hard work of the House, we are just two steps away from achieving health insurance reform in America. Now the United States Senate must follow suit and pass its version of the legislation. I am absolutely confident it will, and I look forward to signing comprehensive health insurance reform into law by the end of the year.
Rep. Joseph Cao, the lone Republican member of Congress to back the bill, also put out a long statement explaining his vote (and emphasizing the fact that he also voted in favor of the anti-choice provision, presumably to try to stave off the heavy incoming attacks from conservative activists).

  • @vgcq02 all she needs is 29 more seats they just won a seat in new yorks 26th district that was under republican rule for 40 yrs

  • @christianafaria1209 Sure. Please sign a document making it illegal for a doctor to treat you if you get into an accident. Otherwise, if you get hospitalized and cannot pay, the hospital takes your assets and you get to pay your entire salary towards the hospitalization Fair?

  • I feel sorry for Pelosi losing the speaker of the house seat. One day she'll get it back.

  • @christianafaria1209

Take it from an individual who is reaping from the benefits of a universal health care, sweetheart it is worth it.....i am a canadian, and i have been wordering why would american opt out and trade off health for just a little bit of money......is that how you value yourselves?

  • DO YOU REALLY THINK THIS BILL WILL HELP US? THIS HAS TAKEN AWAY MANY OF OUR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS. I HAVE THE RIGHT TO EITHER HAVE INSURANCE OR NOT. I DON'T WANT NO DAMN INSURANCE. JUST THE GOVS WAY OF GETTING MORE MONEY ON DAILY BASIS ON TOP OF OUR TAXES SO WHY IN THE WORLD WILL WE PAY DOUBLE

  • health care from a bank...the world bank. wonder why none of our representatives mentioned that fact.

  • They're so happy, it's refreshing

  • @Therowan26 I dont remember what I posted. I am assuming I said something about government controlling health. I do think health care reform was necessary. Insurance companies were out of hand. I think there should be some federal guidlines in place that takes some of the control from ins. companies... but I believe what we have done is traded something bad for something worse.

  • @tucker826 your right it sounds so much better coming from an insurance company
