Which Child Would Jesus Hit?
There are several childcare experts out there publishing books on how to push the limits between discipline and abuse. I am talking about well known authors such as Tripp, the Pearls, Lessin, Dobson, and others. Several of them advocate things which would unquestionably raise bruises which would result in removal by child services for breaking the law. Especially Lessin.
For those reading these books, I would greatly recommend the author Clay Clarkson of Heartfelt Discipline. He was a former bible thumping child whipper who did his own in-depth study and discovered for himself that Christ never advocated hitting children into obedience or in any fashion. He has now written a book on how to raise children in patience and love as Christ intended.

I would also recommend those interested in the long term effects of Lessin's disciplinary tactics to read An Open Letter to Roy Lessin. This is easy enough to find on Google.

My objective is to raise awareness of the fact that this country allows children to be hit repeatedly with pretty much anything a parent can get his hands on and to point out the fiction behind many myths used to support hitting children.

First ask yourself, "Which Child Would Jesus Hit?" If your answer contains a list of dictators such as Sadamm, his sons Uday and Qusay, Hitler, Stalin, and so forth, you should spend a few minutes on google to confirm that all these people were beaten as children.

One myth would be that the bible demands it, yet the quotes in proverbs paraphrased as "spare the rod, spoil the child" (which is actually not a quote from the bible, do a search on a bible site for yourself) are assumed by pro-c.p. spokespeople to have been written by wise King Solomon. If their assumption was correct, then why does Solomon's son Rehaboam turn out to be a tyrant who looses his father's kingdom? The people asked him for mercy and he threatened them with scorpions in place of whips (adding rock chips to strands of whip, basically)
Another myth would be that c.p. is the only way or keeps kids out of prison, yet numerous studies available through religioustolerance.org show just the opposite.
Another myth is that no one uses c.p. anymore and that is why crime is skyrocketting, but in reality the great majority of parents of today's teens/young adults still used it. They just cut from about 100% to about 90%, which may be why juvenile violent crime has actually been decreasing since the late 90's.

  • Really-- children's rights trumps everything, period. Believe whatever you want, just don't hurt the kids. There's nothing more important.

  • the problem is the law in the US is set up to allow children to be hit with pretty much anything and does not set strict limits on how far it can go. That is, until the kid is killed basically, and I think we should put a stop to it far before that point.

  • in 1 corinthians 4:21 paul said shall i come at you with a rod,or insted in love and gentleness? this verse makes a clear distinction that coming at someone with a rod is in fact the opposite of love.

  • Yeah, its funny how the people quoting and bible bashing to exhort people to hit their kids miss such obvious distinctions. I wonder how many actually read with the intent to see what they should do instead of just looking to justify what they already want to do.

  • Jesus took our physical , painful chastisment for us on the cross so we could be at peace. before that all people were beat for there wrong doings even adults there is plenty of proof of this in the Bible. So how can someone claim to be a christian and not accept all of what christ did for us on the cross? Jesus said what you do to these little ones you do to me. By hitting your child you are hitting christ all over again.

  • They accept what he did, for themselves and fellow adults, but they decide not to apply that grace and compassion to children. It's a sickening double standard. Mercy for adults, harsh punishment for little children. It's completely backwards.

  • @sthomaslewis your very right, If one understand what spirituality is and how it works it becomes obvious that corporal punishemnt always has negative effects on the human spirit. And an unbalanced low vibration spirit is the cause of all problems( negative thoughts, negative feelings, and negative behaviors) The old testiment people did not understand spirituality In the hebrew language there is no word for "spirituality" Jesus was the first to teach such things.

  • @EuphemiseThis I very much agree with you. Children need to be taught repentance for wrong-doing rather than have pain inflicted upon them. The infinite atonement of Christ was sufficient pain; children do not need more pain.

  • A very good video. I would need to watch it several times to catch the captions, as they go quite rapidly. Hopefully, you can create an additional video with slower captions.

  • So please tell me how is it determined that a passage in the bible is hyperbole or proverbs? Is there a star at the end of a line or passage that indicates its status? Is there a legend at the beginning or end of the bible with a list of what is a hyperbole or a proverb? Who gets to decide which is which? Does every person think the same passage is a particular type? If there is a difference of opinion who is right who decides who is right and why?

  • spare the rod spoil the child is not a verse in the proverbs as many believe and neither is finders keepers losers weepers.

  • In hebrews 12:09-10 we see a comparison being done between the chastising of our flesh by our earthly fathers and the non-violent chastising of God unto his children. in verse 10 it shows that the only form of chastisment that is profitable to the one receiving it is that which comes from God while that done unto our flesh by our fathers is not profitable to us but only feeds the pleasures of those that inflict it !

  • Corporal punishment is full of hipocracy and is not peacful or merciful and definitley not gentle so it can not be considered wisdom according to the new testiment's definition of wisdom. james 3:17-18 but the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hipocracy. and the fruite of the riteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.

  • when a child is extremley abused or killed by a parent only then do pro-spankers condemn them. But if the law wants to bann all spanking as the only way to govern these problems ,pro-spankers get all upsit. so in other words ,kids getting killed is acceptable collateral damage neccesary to tolerate in order to protect the parents so-called right to spank there child.
