Chevrolet is hoping its new Caprice Police Patrol Vehicle (PPV) will fill the void being left by the retirement of perennial police favorite, Ford's Crown Victoria.

Built on a rear-wheel drive platform from its Australian Holden subsidiary that's underneath the Pontiac G8 and Chevy Camaro, this sedan should offer law enforcement departments that V8 power and room they love.

But if cops catch the same downsize fever that's gripped civilian drivers this may be too little too late.

Performance enthusiasts might have a chance to order the always coveted police package of options for their boulevard cruisers.

The Caprice PPV will be available for ordering next year and will hit the streets in early 2011.

  • that guy didnt mension australians built that car along with thier pontiac G8 n chevy cruze, chevy omega americans took credit for our australian cars plus if ur american search holden commodore(G8) holden cruze n holden omega n holden statesman(caprice)

  • You're right that the Australian designers and engineers for GM haven't gotten the credit they deserve. They also did the GTO a couple of years ago. That team understands American cars better than we do here. Good news is Mark Reuss, GM's new president for North America, spent time as the head of Holden and he's steeped in the knowledge of American performance cars. A good sign even though the future is electric. @MrHeyfuckoff

  • I think I will always prefer the Crown Vic. It just screams police car. But that Chevy looks ok.

  • fuckk the copppss

  • That's Holden Caprice, mate.

  • This is an Australian designed and built car. I know...I work on the production line in Adelaide building these things.

  • Ford made a mistake discontinuing the RWD. This car will definitely take over.

  • @ovillium really? i didnt kno that. thanks for letting me kno :)

  • @MrHeyfuckoff you forgot the comaro, thats australian designed and runs a the same chasis as the monaro, or the american GTO, monaro is better lol

  • @ziggyzedly thats just it. "used in different countries" you have to convince police departments that the caprice is right for use in the states, where as the charger has already been in use for quite some time and has built a solid reputation. I personally like the caprice but people (police departments included) inherently don't like change.

  • @crusaderpat FYI this vehicle and the SWB version have been used as police vehicles since 2006 in different countries, so it's well proven. If you go back to the late 70's, the Holden commodore (G8 as you know it) has been in service as general duties (basic model) and highway patrol (performance model) police vehicles ever since. Cheers.
