It sounds like having his last name begin with God went to his head.

the host/narrator:Mr.Jack Perkins said "if his death had occured back in the 1950's..it would have been a national
tradgety..now..few cared."

I can still remember listening to A. G. on the radio -when I was a boy- his voice was lethargic drone & slothful- he could imagine him drooling into the mic- his mouth so close and he would breathe through his his siliva like some sort of invisible radio goull - and he would talk & talk & talk ....What I have begun to now understand is mostly what i was feeling as a child - they say you can't fool a child !

I couldn't help but compare this to the recent incident with Taylor Swift and Kanyay West. West, like Godfrey has been instantly villified, while Swift, like LaRosa, will probably become more popular because of it.

Yes, yes, This was very much like Kanyay West. There was someone else who committed a sort of career suicide. Shelly Burman, behaved like an ass one night on live television. Within a few days he was one of the most hated men in America!

I myself listened to Gofrey Daily as a child and a teen Enjoyed him very much not old enought to remember this, wasnt born till 1954, heard a lot about it after I grew up. LaRosa wasnt the only one fired Archy Blyer, Hilokia the singer the maguire sisters the mariners and janette davis SO all went bad for Godfrey, I still liked him even as a teen

I'm so sorry Arthur Godfrey is most famously known as an ego maniac. Too many people called that on-air firing the BIGGEST mistake in TV history. Sad to be known for that.
