@minhvuvn 1. The in game map won't tell you what altitude to be at to intercept the ILS. The charts are usually available from the internet at various websites depending on the country.
2. 2000ft at 10 miles should be fine, you should always try to intercept the glideslope from beneath it. So the aircraft should be on ALT mode to hold say 2000ft and when the glideslope becomes active then you should press APP mode on.
3. The rudder isn't used to turn the aircraft, it is used in the turn however.

@TroyChappy 3. I saw you using the aileron to line up with the runway, how about using the rudder ?

@TroyChappy Thanks bud. Can I have some more questions ?
1. The chart isn't available from the game's map, is it ?
2. I often approach at 2000-2500 feet, 5-10 miles from the runway. However, when I used the ILS 2 times yesterday, it successfully lined me up with the runway but shot me to 4-5000 feet above ground ?? I turned off the ALT holding mode.

@minhvuvn If you are using ATC they will tell you what altitude to descend to so that you can capture the ILS. The further from the airport you go the higher you will need to be in order to be on the ILS slope. If you look at the chart for the airports ILS it will tell you the altitude on there to be at to capture the ILS.
Thanks bud. In FSX, I find it perfectly safe to land on the side of the runway in a prop plane. So in case you see that you're gonna miss the runway in the last seconds, do you pull up or just land it ?

@minhvuvn Real life procedure would be to perform a 'go-around' so you would go through to full power and climb away from the runway if your landing looks evening mildly unsafe, or something is wrong with the aircraft. In FSX it doesn't really matter what you do, since it is just a simulation and not real life, but if you were simulating real life you would perform a go-around.

Thanks mate, you seem to be very knowledgeable and instructive. One final thing: What is the difference between the NAV and APR hold ? I also find the ILS approach to be madly inaccurate especially in the final phase.

@minhvuvn NAV hold will horizontally align you with the ILS or a VOR depending on the frequency you have tuned. The APR hold will horizontally align you and also fly the vertical profile of the ILS (glideslope). When the autopilot flies the ILS in fsx most aircraft, except some payware, fly it horribly. The ILS itself I think isn't too bad, its just how the autopilot flies it. Once you have runway in sight in FSX you can just go visual anyway.

@TroyChappy Another sidenote question: As I haven't tried to master the jets in FSX, do you think it's possible to visually and manually land a jet ? (I mean no autopilot and IFR involved at all)

@minhvuvn Its possible, and probably easier than landing it with instruments and autopilot (depending on the weather).
