Competitions are for young pianists trying to build a career, not masters like Solomon.

I remember the 78 of this very well. Solomon was celebrated in his day but seems to have been largely forgotten these days He was noted particularly for his Beethoven. He was retired from the concert platform and recording studio for many years before his death owing to the results of a stroke.

Besides other remarkable features of this sublime performance was, for people of my generation, that at 5.29 minutes it originally fitted onto one side of a 78. - John Austin, Australia

La musique du coeur continue quand le piano s' arrête... Instrument, interprète, compositeur ... Perfection, pr le lambda heureux de recevoir cette nourriture hors de sa portée... Merci!!!

@bouhet22 -They were two of the very best ever of Chopin players-and much more.

@larrypittsjr -Very well said.
With pianists of this caliber, there is no need to quibble over who is "better". There is no such thing as a "correct" interpretation of a piece of music; each pianist's interpretation is his/her deeply personal expression. We should understand that what we think is "better" is only a matter of our personal taste in music.
