"Homicide" was the first pre-recorded hour long Australian TV drama. Made in Melbourne by Crawford Productions, it ran for 12 years and 510 episodes. During its time it constantly out-rated every other American and British series that went up against it. Launching the Australian TV (and film) industry, it commenced a continuous run of Australian production which has remained unbroken to the present day.
Thank you KatCassidy for this.

Very good to be able to watch the very first episode of Homicide from circa 1965. Ian Turpie went on to become a staple of Australian TV shows.
