Firstly I apologise for the bad quality filming, I was in a rush to capture this and had the wrong setting on the camera.
These are my wild caught fish from Lake Tanganyika in South Africa, I was lucky to get them as juveniles and raise them myself, they are Benthochromis tricoti, common names are three striped cichlid or giant featherfins.
They are deep water fish that live at depths of between 100 and 150 meters (300 to 450 feet in depth) but at spawning time they come up to areas of 65meters (200 feet).
In my video you will see the female drop eggs, pick them up in her mouth and gulp at the males anal area to take in the milt/sperm that he releases., something that's rarely seen.
