OMG, talk about displacement. Einstein shouldn't have had E=Mc2 because other people turned it into a bomb??? I hope you explained to your students the problem with that thought process. If I have an idea and someone else uses it to make a device, and use the device to hurt people, the only thing wrong is the choice that was made to hurt people, not the creator, not the user, not even the weapon was wrong. The act of harm against another, for any reason, is where the concept becomes wrong.

But this comes back to the point of the video which seems to concern itself more with freedom of information than thought. Can anyone read your thoughts or stop you from thinking? Absolutely not. No one us arguing that. And evil ideas are a morality and religious discussion rather than rights and dangerous ideas. You think Americans have freedom of thought with Mass Media? At least China isn't trying to throw up an illusion of free thought, something that only truly takes shape on the Internet.

See this is actually a good philosophical topic.

"Can anyone read your thoughts or stop you from thinking? Absolutely not."

That doesn't keep people from trying; brainwashing, political re-education, deprogramming, etc.

Free thought would be the right for someone to think or believe anything they want.

Yet how many times do you see one group of people trying to convince another group of people that their ideas are wrong on the internet?

The funny thing is that these people often attack others beliefs and claim their attacks are "Free speech" when their communication is an attack on freedom of thought.

How can you have free speech without free thought? Before you can say it, you have to be able to think it.

The idea that I want to outlaw is "there is only one" I have to use Islam as the basis because I can think of NO other fervent group that says theres' is the only way. So much so that killing is OK if you do not believe with them (in my experience).

So if there was any way to stop a group of people from thinking that their way is the only way we would be in alignment with this video.

Good topic. I really appreciate my freedom of speech. The only concern is the willful harming of others with speech, but we do just fine overall in the US. Years ago in China, there was a few hundred college student protesting for some freedoms, they ended up ran over by tanks and killed. Freedom of thought is wonderful, I just wish more people had more independant thinking.

recently I have been a victim of censorship . I had wrote a review for a German film classic made under the third Reich. on I.M.DB. It had Jazz in it. I had state that it was hypocritical that it wasn't tolerated on radio.. I stated that how the Nazi's viewed jazz , not me as Nigger and Jud music. I stated that this was a historical fact. they would not let me submit it unless i remove the words. The movie Das Grosse Aubetneuer

Well nobody realy has there own thoughts any more, if you look at movies and read books, you see there ideas, that they got from somewhere else,and trigger your own, it's very easy to control peoples actions and thoughts and i know sound i like a comic book villian, but if you express an idea on a global scale in a form that no one would see but would be exposed to it basically non-stop ,like a t.v. show, then people fall in love with the it and follow it day by day to see what will happen.

This woman mocks China's fear of ideas, while in hindsight it makes complete sense. You are simply looking at it the wrong way. To a government, the people may be treated as commodities rather than individuals in order to better preserve order and carry out the ultimate goals of the government. An idea of criticism, anger, and revolution if cultivated enough hinders and even destroys governments. This is why China controls thought and expression. Not saying its right. Just pointing it out.
