"But he had some friends, and I got an extra set of knuckles."
For the fans, by fans! We offer you a re-created scene from the classic 1973 crime-drama, "The Friends of Eddie Coyle". Our intent was to undertake a film project of substance that would be fun to do and to honor this wonderful yet largely unknown film. Adapted from the novel of the same name written by George V. Higgins, "The Friends of Eddie Coyle" is a low-brow, down and dirty look at Boston's blue-collar underworld in the 1970s that is small on action but very rich on dialogue and narrative plot.

Shot on location at the world famous Shanty Cafe in Seattle, this scene, the film's opening conversation, stars D'Angelo Midili, J.P. Giuliotti and features Shyn Midili, "Jersey Dave" Miller, Tim "The Prophet" Malloy, Edward T. Martin and the lovely Jade Lin. Directed by Andrew Birchall and photographed by William Brody. Original music score by Daniel J. DiIulio. Other cast and crew: Shyn Midili, Tom McIntire, Jade Lin, Adam Powers, Dale Smith, Colin Kelley. Special thanks to Ryan Purcell, Ben Andrews and Robert Curtis.

The original film, released by Paramount Pictures, is now available on DVD from the prestigious Criterion Collection.

  • Hey thanks for pointing me in this direction, I enjoyed the scene. Do you know why the film is not so well known? With that cast and director it should be talked about in the same breath as The French Connection and Serpico, all the other classic 70s films. I'd not heard about until Criterion put the trailer here on Youtube.

  • @stevenandnicola123 Good question. It had a under the radar release (I believe it was the summer). Not sure if that has anything to do with criteria for media distribution. You are right though. It is definitely in the pantheon of gritty, 70's great crime movie. It is not as pumped up as French Connection or Taking of Pelham 123 but it certainly is on par with Serpico in terms of subdued dialogue and realism. Still a hard style for audiences to digest because it isn't action oriented.
