King arranged the Shirelles' version.I fact,I believe she actually plays a tympani on it.There's a picture of the recording session,a small white girl in a sea of black musicians and the Shirelles,and King going over the arrangement with them.Saw it in a bio of Ms. King on the American Masters series on PBS,if my memory serves me correctly.

I find this fascinating.Every morning,the babysitter would come over[Little Eva,for whom the would write Locomotion.]Gerry would go to his job at a chemical plant,and Carol would commute to the Brill Building in NYC,punch in at the publishing Co.,and go to her musical cubicle beside Neil Diamond and Doc Pomus,and create this incredible music.Punch out,and go home, another young,anonymous working girl,just like the secretaries and bank tellers,and no better paid.

But it's interesting that King's husband Gerry Goffin wrote the lyrics and King wrote the melodies. He was really able to write from a woman's point of view.
