AH!! von Otter is absolutely breathtaking. Her voice is so gorgeous and her inflection shows true dedication to her character and her craft. She is truly an inspiration.

SC you gotta take into consideration Janet Baker, Kirkby, Ms van Otter and all the rest were playing with orchestra's that believe me help a singer especially when trying to sing and aria. Jeff Buckley sang it as a matter of fact with a piano at the meltdown festival. None of the other singers could hit the high notes so beautiful and spine tingling like Jeff. It's ok if you like what you like JBaker is very good Queen. Jeffs the king.

Maybe Peterschon meant that Anne Sophie v O rips on this aria, as in shreds, or whatever. I checked out Jeff Buckley's (speaking of RIP) version and thought it was pretty interesting (at best). It's great that he gave it the ol college try. There's also a stunningly freakish rendition by Klaus Nomi that is a must-hear for all. In the end - no one touches Janet Baker in my mind.
