What the F--- did he just say??? Perfect example of the MSM jumping to partisan conclusions without evidence.

Recorded just a few months after the explosion of violence in late 2006 that prompted George Bush's "Surge" in January '07, NBC's Richard Engel suggests to anchor Brian Williams that a brief pause in the fighting in Baghdad was due to the insurgency LAYING LOW to see if "political pressure in the U.S." (read: "newly elected Democrats opposing the war") will "HELP THEM WIN".

Excuse me, but WHEN exactly did Engle start interviewing insurgents on how closely they were monitoring politics in the U.S. and their belief that they would regard a change in U.S. strategy as a "win"?

The *brief* cessation in fighting soon after the initial "surge" of 18,000 troops into Baghdad was the result of insurgents leaving Baghdad for Ramadi and Falluja, not because they were "watching events in the U.S." and adjusting their strategy accordingly.

  • "Liberal Reporters"? I think the myth of a "Liberal Media bias" is blown away by this video.

As for "progress in Iraq"... 12 hours after this broadcast, 9 American soldiers were killed in the deadliest day in Iraq in over a month:

  • Gotta love the democrats. Anything bad for America is good for them. Disgusting.

  • Exactly HOW do you know the insurgency is laying low simply to see what happens in the U.S.? Are you secretly working with them and have the inside scoop on how they feel?

  • Haha the Dems did their best but failed.

  • I really appreciate what you're doing here. The "Liberal Media" is such a ridiculous talking point.

  • So, with you, it's 'Us and Them' is it?

Try, if you can, to see Right vs Wrong, Good vs Bad, Reality vs Fantasy. You may very well have lost your objectivity somewhere along these past few years.

  • WHAT?!!! Have you had your eyes open to reality of 2001-2006??? The 'so-called' Republicans (read Neocons) have brought this upon our nation (and the world). Hell hath no fury as a Neocon in control...

  • Both sides of the asile are disgusting and for profit.

  • I know all about it but only a couple days ago 20 insurgents were killed. you hear all about the dead americans but what about insurgents dead? Thats what i'm mean about liberal reporters.

  • Regarding "Gotta love the democrats. Anything bad for America is good for them. Disgusting."

Can we finally let go of this kind of extreme thinking. I am a Democrat-leaning-Independent and I think in terms of what is good foer everyone. I could just as easily say that Republicans only think of themselves and that anything bad for the world is fine with them as long as it makes them more money. Disgusting.

  • Even the liberal reporters can't deny the progress in iraq, they've been denying it for so long now they're forced to admit the success because more and more americans are seeing through their one-sided broadcasts.

  • Oh, goody! It's "safe!" You can crawl out from under your bed now.

Your little semicolon-enriched fantasy ignores the fact that the G.O.P. goons have been in complete charge of the Iraq mess for many years now, and (psychic mind-melds with insurgents aside) have no idea how to stabilize anything. I think the Republicans' time-honored strategy of "making shit up" just might be starting to backfire.
