A short piece filmed on Brighton beach by the BBC, regarding security using open wireless access points... I happen to be one of the wireless surfers :P

Sorry about the signal breaking up and the audio sync problems.

  • No, I wasn't 'hacked.'

Steve (the guy interviewed) had brought a client's laptop, which had really lapse default settings and they got in on a default admin password

  • Real hackers are almost impossible to defend against. They can get through even the best firewalls. This stuff is all what normal people can do.

  • so the big question is were you one of the hackables?

tbh all the stuff they were trying to do was all mediocre and rather simple to avoid being captured by these type of hackers (often called script kiddies).

Yer packet sniffing is extremely easy to do but its even simpler to avoid by using simple encryption.

Open file sharing is another simple thing. Yer anyone can put files in it but who in their right mind would be so stupid to open a suspicious looking file in an open share...
