The Old Apple Tree, a visual essay inspired by Urgelt's reading of the poem by Paul Laurence Dunbar (1872-1906).

Music by "Ubi Caritas,"
a composition by Eremos from music.download.com. The entire track also contains sound effects from inchadney, "Harzmountain Stream" from freesound.iua.upf.edu. Music and sound effects are licensed works under the Creative Commons.
I live surrounded by Apple Orchards in Glastonbury UK.
Urgelts reading of the Poem "The Old Apple Tree" focused me on the idea of making a visual accompanyment to the recitation, here it is, filmed mostly in the Glastonbury Abbey apple orchards, which is 100,s maybe 10000's of years old. Isle of Avalon is another name for Glastonbury, Avalon comes from the celtic word for apples, 'Isle of Apples'
Thankyou to Urgelt for creating such an evocative reading of The Poem "The Old Apple Tree" which has evoked this response
Hope this works!

Text of the poem can be found here:

Taken from Urgelts video description,
"It may be that the sound track is of particular interest to insomniacs, sufferers of anxiety, and those interested in meditation. If you are interested in obtaining an MP3 version of this sound track, write to me".

  • I really enjoyed your thoughful and sincere rendition of Mr. Dunbar's classic poel. I suggest another of his poems, The Old Banjo.

  • Thankyou!

I think I know were there's an old banjo, still attached to an old banjo player!

  • I love all of your works, they're so beautiful. Continue to be creative. Teresa

  • Hi Teresa, thankyou.

Know one can imagine how much pleasure and sheer fun I get out of doing this! each one is a real life adventure, and you get to meet truly lovely souls like yourself and Martin and so many others!

  • Your video work was a wonderful complement to Ugelt's reading skill Bravo to you both!!! How did you fade back and forth and get those images ontop of one another like that. Your editing skill is fantastic! Keep up the great work and Ugelt Please keep reading!

  • When the 2 clips are played, the one that is above the other which is slightly transparent

Will then then seem to fade in.

By simply extending the time of the fade/dissolve transition you can 'mix' clips.

  • I love this poem...and the reader's voice...so peaceful! The images bring back memories of my childhood...growing up in the country in Tennessee and picking apples on the farm. Mom and my aunts would make the BEST fried apple pies...They would share them with you...and a tall glass of sweet iced tea...

  • Very pretty.

  • Reminds me of my childhood and an elderly couple with an old apple tree. Brought us bushels of apples with bruises and worms. The old man showed us how to cut out the good and made apple sauce.
