Lincoln, November 21, 1987 -
OU & Nebraska staged "Game of the Century II" in 1987. The Huskers were ranked number 1 with a 10-0 record; The Sooners were ranked number 2 with a 10-0 record. Nebraska was confident, knowing that OU starting QB Jamelle Holieway would not be in the Sooner's starting lineup. Husker linebacker Broderick Thomas even promised a Nebraska victory. However, OU coach Barry Switzer pointed out that the Huskers had only scored 3 offensive TDs in the last 3 years against OU. After the teams forged a 7-7 tie in the 3rd qtr, Patrick Collins raced 65 yards for a TD with 1:39 left in the 3rd, and R.D. Lasher nailed a clinching field goal with 7:40 remaining in the game for a 17-7 OU victory.

  • @bherron34 Didn't Thomas say something like "the flat out truth is OU shouldn't even be on the same field with us?" I remember it being posted all over campus

  • That was a great defense performance by OU that day in Lincoln. I remember Hollaway going down a couple weeks before the game and Barry told Charles Thompson he would shock the nation if he went out and played like he practiced. Broderick Thomas and Steve Taylor did do a little too much trash talking before that game and it definitely played in OU's favor. If I remember correctly, NU had something like 12 staight 3 and outs that game. I will miss the OU and NU rivalry.

  • what a great rivalry that will come to and end pretty soon if nebraska goes to the BIG 10

  • Now that's the option at its finest.

  • How many people remember what Nebraska's quarterback said before the game. THEY CANNOT PLAY WITH US. Oh tylenol Osborne that defense was harder than I thought.

  • This is a classic option play.

  • It's called the wishbone

  • sure rather play oklahoma every year than them scummy buffs!! sure miss these old games this was our only and true rivalry nebraska vs ou every year!!!! like em or hate em you always loved the game!

  • OU>Nebraska>texas

  • Nebraska played at OU in 68 & 69. So OU owned a game to NU. If I remember right it had to do with stadium construction, but I could be wrong. Shame they don't play every year, one of the best big games in college football.
