There's nothing below the X-Clamps but directly on the other side of the motherboard you'll find the CPU and the GPU. One X-Clamp holds a heat sink tightly to the CPU and the other X-Clamps holds a heat sink down onto the GPU. This design is flawed because it bends the motherboard and slowly over time the connections between the chips and the motherboard deteriorate because of the motherboard bending and the heat generated by the system.
The first frame of the slide show displays an X-Clamp attached to the four special posts that clamp the heat sink down.
The second frame shows the heat sinks on the other side of the mother board.
The third frame shows the CPU and the GPU that are below the heat sinks. Don't forget to clean all the thermal paste off with rubbing alcohol and Q-Tips.
The fourth frame shows the new hardware I used to clamp the heat sinks down. Bolts, nylon washers and metal washers. It's a simple and cheap as that!
The fifth frame shows the side of the motherboard where the X-Clamps were but I've replaced them with the simple hardware.
The sixth and last frame displays a mounted heat sink. The brackets under the heat sink are threaded so the nut screws right in.
Lookin' good!
lol, Just fixed mine using that method. So nice!
Freakin 40 bucks for a nice Xbox! Just gotta pay for the accessories. Which does suck.
