(July 9, 2010) If you must experience a devastating industrial accident, pray you live in a rich and powerful country. Americans are justifiably angry, but they have 24-hour tar ball removal, a hotline for oiled birds, and a 20 billion dollar compensation fund.
In Bhopal, India, tens of thousands were killed 25 years ago when toxic gas
escaped from a factory run by the U.S. company Union Carbide. The compensation was meager, the plant is still oozing toxic waste, and the first trials, which took place this year, found executives guilty and handed out 2-year sentences. The American CEO skipped bail and lives comfortably in the U.S.
Is suffering, justice and executive accountability different in a rich
country than a poor one?

@Edaeron ...... I am not looking for your forgiveness. I have done nothing wrong and you have no power to forgive me for anything. I know that businesses have gone kaput in the Gulf . . . I know that people have suffered. Some - not all - have received some compensation. I can't control the disparities. Our original topic was the Bhopal accident and how very little was done to bring justice to the people in India. Once again, India should have been more forceful in seeking justice.

@azas1949 your a ignorant child that hasn't opened their eyes and anyone can forgive you for that even me. How ever what i can do as physical evidence is drive around my home town, and others towns alike that are still to this day blue roofed homes from Hurricane Ike, I've worked in towns right off the Gulf coast where people to this day say due to the oil spill their out of business. Not everyone gets the help they need like the controlled media would have you believe.

@Edaeron ...... Until I see facts otherwise, I believe it is being spent on the victims. Once again, cite your sources. BTW, you should grow up and develop a brain. Only those without a brain can't cite facts and depend on speculation, can't spell correctly, and have to employ the use of foul gutter language. That has nothing to do with delusion.

@azas1949 Where on earth do you believe that 20 billion went? You believe the controlled media that BP really did assist in everyones recovery? You are delusional, and btw you should grow the fuck up. Only a child would attack someone on grammar or proper spelling when in a discussion.

@azas1949 just imagen how much of that $20 billion is lining his pockets.
More towards Bhopal, i don't think anything should excuse a company for mass murder due to neglect, american or foreign country. I hope in the near future the families and even country effected seek justice for what Union Carbide did. It would be nice to know that any and all CEO/s of Union Carbide are all living a life of poverty if not behind bars.
