Why didn't the lava at the beginning catch the wood on fire?

@MinerlyCrafted It is an optical illusion of sorts... the lava is air tight within that glass floor. The edge blocks are all stone. No lava is adjacent to any wood, thus it doesn't catch fire.

To say the least, I am confused.

@KrimsonCalamity Okay well it's size was so that I could seal the fire in while making it and not lose my wooden base. The concept is quite simply the water pours onto wooden blocks which are constantly being set on fire by nether rock sitting next to them. The water then instantly puts the fire out and causes the steam hissing noise.
My second engine on-board my airship has a lot more wood so the steam hiss is more constant. Essentially the effect I was aiming for here.
