Senna did not want any kind of commemoration in his 31st birthday, which was two days before the 1991 Brazilian GP. He went to bed very early and as soon as he slept he had a dream where he was racing alone, and the car was getting faster and faster. He woke up smiling. He slept again, and he had the same dream, but this time he recognized the track, it was Interlagos. That would be the 8th time that he was trying to win there, and all concentration was needed. He got the pole position, in front of fasters Williams-Renault of Mansell and Patrese and he easily led the race until lap 65. Until lap 65, the dream that he had last night was becoming true. Suddenly, the 3rd gear pulled out. Senna was scared. Then he tried to select the 4th gear and it did not work. He felt a cold thing on his stomach and his head ached. Later he did not remember if he had prayed to God or if he had shouted a bad word. In the straight he saw in the pit board "+7 L6", what meant that he had a gap of 7 seconds to Riccardo Patrese with 6 laps to go. With a deep breath, he prayed "I will do it". Two laps later and he saw the pit board again with bad news "+4 L3". Patrese had decreased the gap by 3 seconds. And things got worse when he tried to select the 5th gear and it did not work. He only had the 6th gear. He looked no more to the pit board, did not care about radio and just accelerated.

"I just came back to reality after the checkered flag. Then I felt a great pleasure of living, of being at Interlagos, at my hometown and seeing my people happy. It was not my greatest victory, but it was the most sacrificed".

  • @yanny1203 ballestre hated senna.

  • who is the man who trys to take away the flag from Senna? JM-Balestre?

  • I just love it when he pours the champagne over his head, he was far more tired than Beger and Patrese and put more effort into the race because of his gearbox problem, this brang tears to my eyes, this is possibly his greatest victory!

  • yeah, that was very difficult. only sixth gear in a circuit with two hairpins? there was danger of leaving the track as engine brake was missing and there was danger of losing a lot of time. he did both the things in a magic way. this race became legendary because of that mission impossible. Senna made it possible with extreme concentration and mind power. after all the rain helped him as that gave him the possibility to invent some of his extra skills.

  • This is the reason who senna is the best! The best in dry and wet(rain)! The fastest driver forever! And much better than Schumacher who wins yours championships because Senna die

  • Man...U can hear him punching the clutch to raise the rpms....just awesome....try to put a high gear on ur car and drive...u will have a sample what senna did.
