  • Dear LyShalott, You misunderstood my remarks. Dance is not stagnant and each dancer interprets the CHOREOGRAPHY within what the choreographer has given him or her. Nijinsky's choreography is not based on memory (note I'm not talking about the original performance)'; he wrote it down from his own notation system so detailed it indicates 'fingers bent,' 'slightly bent and completely bent,' even how the fingers were placed on the flute. The choreographic score is a tribute to Nijinsky's genius.

  • @a1952doc Hi,

It serves no purpose to debate this, it speaks for itself. What you call 'distortions' should regarded as interpretations, ballet is not stagnant. Talk of the original performance is in large part based upon the recollection of others. The still images of the original performance are echoed in this, not copied. Enjoy it for what it is and do not underestimate the influence of the music on the dance.

    Peace and Love

  • the quiet pace and stylized movement make me think of the ancient art of greece and rome on urns and murals

  • This is my favorite ballet male role, the, slow pace is so important, enhancing, with the music, an air of sensuality and voyerism

  • fabulous post ! memories of standing in the same room with him, such a commanding presence in person ...unforgettable !!! TY !!!

  • i love this ballet and have seen it may times but always wondered why it couldn't be re-choreographed with more tricks. the music suggest many opportunities for jumps and turns. why not?
