These are some updates I'd like to see within the Swedish Air Force for the Future.
The Sk 60 trainer / Light Attack aircraft is getting old and needs a replacement. If you ask me, there's three possible contesters. The Aermacchi M-346 / Yakolev Yak-130, the Super Tucano and the KAI T-50 Golden Eagle. They're all quite modern, they're all capable of providing pilot training, light attack missions and reconnaissance capabilities. The Super Tucano is a possible contester if the Gripen would win the Brazilian F-X2 competition. If it does so, Sweden has promised to evaluate the Super Tucano. It's cheap, easy to operate, could be used as a COIN plane, it's just like the Gripen, able to land on a regular road and it's reliable.
I believe Sweden should update all Gripen A/B's & C/D's to E/F's (NG / Demo) as soon as possible to be able to maintain being one of the best multi-roll air forces in the world. But with the growing threat of other 5th generation fighters in the world, the Gripen would probably have a hard time maintaining air superiority within Sweden. Either Sweden and Saab makes it own 5th gen fighter starting right now within a European consortium with possibly Dassault and/or BAE, or we buy one from outside. The F-35 is too much like the Gripen. It's too a single-engine multi-roll fighter jet. But it comes at a price far beyond that of the Swedish Air Force and it's probably not going to be able to provide us with strict air superiority. Therefor the only option I see possible is to purchase the new Russian Sukhoi PAK FA T-50. There's around 500 of them being able for exports, and there's rumors that France or Germany could buy them. Either we make or own this instant or we start negotiating 10-20 PAK-FA fighter jets with Russia right now. It would give us the possibility to carry out regular missions with the Gripens for low and medium risk missions and for air superiority, defense and border patrol, we use the Sukhoi T-50. According to many experts, the T-50 has great potential. It's also believed to come at half the price of the F-35.
Since the main goal of the Swedish Armed Forces is to be mobile, helicopters are of grave importance. Having a small number of A109 and NH90's just won't do it. We need more NH90's on order. Since the NH90 is delayed until 2018-2020, Sweden stands without a good medium sized transport helicopter at the moment due to the delays of the NH90 and the retirement of the Boeing Vertol and the BO 105, with the Eurocopter AS 332 Super Puma soon to be retired aswell, Sweden needs a robust, battle proven, modern helicopter quick. The Black Hawk suits Sweden's purposes perfect. It's able to provide medevac for troops abroad, help out in Sweden during crisis back home (e.g. disaster relief) and to provide mobility for Eufor, Nordic Battle Group and the Swedish Armed Forces. They have a large range, they're made so that during a crash, the cockpit and passenger compartment stays intact, and with the S-70 Jay hawk and Sea hawk, they're able to provide rescue service, submarine warfare and covering everything in between.
Another thing Sweden desperately needs is an attack helicopter. The Apache would be a good replacement, but it's very expensive, limits us to American technology and would probably be downgraded versions or second hand ones from the states. Therefor I'd lay my vote on the Eurocopter Tiger. Either the upgraded HAP version, the HAD, or the German UHT versions which will be fitted with the more reliable Rheinmetall RMK30 which have much larger range than that of the GIAT30 and have much less recoil. It's small, agile, able to be transported easily, it's modern, it's hi-tech and it's a great asset for Sweden, being able to provide CAS for troops abroad and be of great value to protect Sweden.
The C-130's in the Swedish Air Force are some of the absolute oldest airplanes still in service with the Swedish Air Force. They desperately needs to be replaced. The Brazilian Embraer KC 390 project could be possible (due to the fact that if Gripen wins the F-X2, we've promised to evaluate it for the replacement of the C-130) and the European Airbus A400M. Both are medium sized transport aircrafts with the capability to have a large range, to provide aerial refueling, to transports Patria AMW's, planes and helicopters and both are able to fit just as much as the C-130 hercules or even more.
And last but not least, I believe that all Swedish Air Force Pilots should receive a new firearm if downed or if left in hostile territory. The Heckler & Koch MP7 with a red dot sight and a suppressor could be such a replacement. It's small, packs a lot of firepower uses much heavier rounds and is able to fire full/semi-auto. The Norwegian pilots have started using these. It would increase survivability a lot.

The L-159 ALCA should be considered. Since JAS-39 is being leased to the CZAF anyway they may be able to broker a good deal to get a discount on some ALCA's.

@dubweiser101 Yeah that's very true. Another fun fact is that some Czech Air Force officers are so pleased with the Gripen that they want to purchase additional NG Gripens. The Czech Air Force is also to acquire the KC 390 from Embraer, and SAAB has proposed to lead all exports within Europe and Asia for the KC 390 to help boost the sales (since amongst SAAF and the CZAF are buying them) for Embraer, if the Gripen NG wins the Brazilian F-X2 contest.
