This Emerson LCD TV came in my shop dead. After testing a few components I found a bad diode on the secondary side of the switch mode transformer. Location number was D631. Someone suggested an NTE 579 might make a good replacement but Digikey had a 5 amp schottky diode which handled more current so I figured was a better option. their part number is SB5100DICT-ND
I also replaced C633 which was 220 MF at 16 volt and
Just to play it safe I replaced C631 even though it checked Okay. It might not have been necessary but because this capacitor appeared to be the filter for this diode which shorted I didn't want to take a chances.
It's value was 2200 MF at 25 volts.

  • Mine has the same issue (does not turn ON) and it makes whistling noise? There is power (about 5V) on both sides. Will it work for me or there is another problem?

    Thank you for sharing experience.

  • @DankoMD I don't know.

  • hey there,

i have a ilive ipod docking station that wont turn on...

i checked all capacitors (one was blown)

and i noticed one of the diodes is slightly popped up/ raised up

and is not aligned with the others.

could this be a reason why my unit wont turn on?

  • @JaneFinchMusic A misaligned diode would not effect it's performance.

  • Wow, that circuit board looked pretty cheaply made. Lots of empty space, and small components :-)

Is this a standard TV, or HD set?

  • @Maxxarcade I agree but it sure had a good picture.
