    Actually most of this is Morocco's beautiful cane dance choreography. She just called it Raqs el Assaya. This music is a different version (not the CD given after the seminar), so from the half onwards the dancer blended other moves with it, to go with the music.

  • Using a cane (Assaya) is a traditional form of Middle Eastern Dance. It is called Raks Al Assaya and is danced in the Saidi region of North Africa. This dance is done to highlight hip work, and twit the mens combatitive "tahtiyb" or martial art form where they beat each other up with canes.

  • I've never seen a cane used in dancing before! Charlie Chaplin fusion :-P
