Question: But wouldn't a Christian Republic run according to God's Law become oppressive to non-Christians?

George Grant: When we start to pick and choose which Old Testament laws we will adhere to and which ones we won't, we ultimately set ourselves up as judges over God and over all of history. If we start to pick and choose which parts of the Old Testament Law we like and which parts we think are judgmental and which parts are helpful, we have established man as the ultimate standard, the ultimate arbiter of all of law. That means we are ultimately vulnerable to whoever is in power, whoever has control, whoever is able to wield the most authority in the society. That puts us in a very vulnerable state.

I would much rather be judged by God than by a man who I do not know. I would much rather be judged by the merciful, loving Creator of heaven and earth than by an accumulation of men, however wise they may be, and no matter how educated they may be. The foolishness of Christians in our day to negate God's law in favor of politics is absolutely frightening. What we are saying is that we would prefer man-made law over God. Didn't we see enough of that with Hitler and the tyrants of the world?

In the history of the world, societies that adhere to biblical principles are always the most free -- economically, socially, culturally, racially -- if we want freedom, opt for the freedom giving, liberty giving standards of Almighty God. If on the other hand, you like the standard of Stalinism, Leninism, Nazism, or Maoism, then go ahead and walk down the path of the wisdom of the 51 percent, the wisdom that flows out of the barrel of a gun.

  • Although Charlemagne named Christ as His God, his mode of operation was rooted in the paganism of his culture. Even so, Christian societies are always going to be extremely flawed because sin is universal. We just think that Christian culture is the best and only alternative. If you disagree, can you name a free society in which atheism or a non-Christian religion is the norm?

  • Israel? Moses' Hebrew Republic?

  • Jesus as the second person of the Trinity was the Lord of Israel, so Christians view ancient Israel as the church of the Old Covenant.

  • @whoo689 They killed in the name of humanity.

  • I love God too and the best part of Gods law is that you get to choose things in life that only effect you. Now in todays law controlled society I can't even choose to wear my seat belt in my car, sad days.

  • The Marxists DID NOT kill in the name of atheism! They would've done it if they were Christians, I'm sure. Hell, the biggest lie is that Hitler was an atheist. He believed in God and professed Christianity!!

  • Not "picking and choosing" OT law would require us to go back to the Stone Age of morality and oppress lots of people who disobey things as simple as "don't eat shellfish." Americans love seafood! The prisons would fill up easily.

Think about what you say before you speak.

  • they also do not deny the existence of supernatural beings.

  • Also - bringing up the idea of living under a man or God- the Israelites did that- they wanted a King- and chose to reject God's - style of government...which was to have people appointed to represent the masses...

  • As stated in this video, God is the God of freedom.

God has created free agents. Choosing good or evil. And if those agents are truly free, what makes it a part of God if they choose evil and He judges it?

You would have to have a pantheistic world view.

Perhaps your argument shows the logical fallacy of blending pantheism and a transcendent God.

  • Buddism is atheistic.

It may not be antinomian (i.e. morals)

but it IS atheistic (i.e. God).

  • If God created us 100% through and through then we are nothing more than a reflection of some part of him. Therefore when he judges us he's really judging a part of himself. Perhaps we're a system of self correction that God implemented for the purpose of bettering himself. Or perhaps my argument shows the logical fallacy of a judgmental creator thus exposing the man made qualities of the idea wholly or in part.

  • yes

    but Buddism isnt atheism

theres still a moral belief system
