The second week of Direct rail Services experimental passenger train to serve the Sellafield nuclear plant , known variously as the Sellafield Special, Sellafield Flyer or Glow Ex!,sees 37 409 'Lord Hinton' in action at various locations on the Cumbrian Coast Line in a variety of weather conditions. The unmistakeable roar of the English Electric engine drowns out the bird song but not the road traffic noise sometimes.

This train is on my local line and passes my hometown of Millom, but I rarely get to see it as I'm at work on all five weekday mornings it stops here at 08:30 on its way to Barrow.

If you wish to try it out it's running weekdays until 17th Feb (but hopefully will become permanent at the end of the trial period) dep Carlisle at 06:15, arr Barrow 09:05.

Northbound it dep Barrow sidings around 15:30 runs empty to Sellafield, to form the 16:48 from there to Carlisle, arriving at 18:30.

  • Great video, hope to see this soon.
