Waiiooo!!!! First time I see this. Kinisou Japur for the upload of this video, I never seen this kind of dance before, I've only heard the singing with hand motions, which are Church Songs, but this is priceless. Thanks, now I know more about my culture.
since the original stick dance originated from my island, i'd love to just toss in a few pointers and info about the whole "war dance". These chants and dances originated from a man (sorcerer) who supposedly had it sang to him by a ghost (believe it or leave it,but this is the history of this so called "stick dance". Anyway, these dance moves and routines mimicks the ancient battle techniques and styles and the words are rather in an esoteric form of the chuukese tongue.
the carolinians of saipan would sometimes do this # wich they call (SCHEP,EMELEF) though it is known that its originaly chuukese. its my first time to see the original style and this is the best. now this is what i call war dance.
Beautiful culture n dances! my question however is other than kiribati r hip dances native to chuuk? How bout other micronesian islands. I also notice the similarities of chants with main island yapese n the satawalese. Keep up the gud work n preserve this wonderful culture!
this is amazing!!!!
