For many years now, samplers have given us the ability to create a digital "replica" of an actual acoustic instrument that plays and sounds just like a great recording of the instrument. Pianos are certainly one of the most replicated sampled instruments, and with the advances made in software samplers, very realistic piano sounds are now attainable. But since the first day I got my Kurzweil K2500XS sampler, I realized it was more fun and rewarding to create my own piano sounds instead of using others. Also, I couldn't ever be happy with all the other sampled pianos I heard or bought.

So here is the Kontakt version of the Steinway D piano... finally! This video features the new AcademicGrand library available on acousticsamples.net. The Kawai library (including a 'pro' version) will be available soon as well.

So enjoy this little demo video I created, and be sure to watch Part Two for a full demo of the knobs. Leave me comments... and definitely stay tuned for more demo videos of future libraries offered by AcousticsampleS and myself!

  • It's beautiful ! the sound are great ! Can you take this sample with sonar, no kontakt or no other plugs?

    Thanks...

ps : I sonar with a garritan poker only...

  • @nickon33 The Kontakt version does require the full version of Kontakt 3.0 or later, but we do have a free player on the AcousticSamples site if you don't have Kontakt. It would run as a VST in Sonar.

  • Question, what piano/keyboard do you have there?

  • Thanks for the compliments! It's an old Kurzweil K2500XS. I've had it for many years and have produced some nice piano sounds with it. Kontakt is sooo much better though!

  • So how it goes this piano to play fast things? sounds good?

  • Can AcademicGrand be used inside of Cubace as a vst ?

  • @lancemgy ....I listened to True Keys from VI Labs.......sounds good........thought the treble was a bit on the bright side..............my perfect virtual instrument would have individual note volume and individual note eq and individual midi key remapper ...

  • @flugelmaniac .....Wait til you hear True Keys Pianos from VI Labs. ;)

  • @anothercrappypianist .....I bought Academic Grand and I can tell you it does not support repedalling, half pedalling.........nor indeed normal everyday plain and simple syncopated pedalling........but then neither do

Garritan Steinway or East West Quantum Leap.

Galaxy Vintage D is certainly the one with potential, but is as yet full of problems.......

  • amigo donde puedo descargar ese AcademicGrand esta muyyy buenoooooo

  • This sample library is unplayable when loaded onto Halion 3 sampler.........it basically sounds like a bag of old nails. Nothing like the sound on this demo which uses Kontakt 4 as the sample engine. Also you can't access the user interface when using this library on Halion......and the default setting that loads on Halion is terrible.

  • you seem to be getting very good results here with Kontakt 4.......I have Academic Grand loaded to Halion 3(full version) and the sound is very disappointing to put it mildly......

  • Steinways have such a lovely texture in the softer dynamics, which is why their sound appeals to me so much. Unfortunately I'm just not hearing that timbre in your demos, and I fear it's because you have only 4 velocity layers.

Does AcademicGrand support repedalling and half-pedalling? I find at least repedalling is an absolute must for me.

I'll be on cloud nine when I find the One Sampled Steinway to Rule Them All. Galaxy's Vintage D is decent but it has at least one deal-breaking flaw.

  • This is awesome. Thanks for making this available.
