Heath Franco's SIDESHOW presents in the Glass Cube enclosure, a mysterious, tormented creature captured and exposed for the delight of Oxford Art Factory audiences. Inspect closely the crude possibilities of human de-evolution through high-visibility safety glass!

Through two enduring, interactive performances, for the Free-Fall Program, SIDESHOW explores the leisure-time activity of watching exotic creatures in artificial enclosures. SIDESHOW combines the Victorian-era travelling carnival 'freakshows', and more current 'wildlife park' modes of commercially packaging the unusual and displaced.

Heath Franco is an emerging Australian moving image artist based in Sydney. His practice is immersed in post-millennial visual technologies in which which narrative, identity and aesthetic form act as axes through which a type of propositional 21st century (self) portraiture is produced. Heath's current work incorporates elements of performance, digital media, and sculpture to create installations that explore obsession, desire and popular modes of leisure. Franco's performances, consisting of repetitive phrase and action, are at once rhythmic, confronting, atrophied and animalistic.

Free Fall is an initiative by artist John A Douglas in partnership with Oxford Art Factory and Chalk Horse gallery. Events are held every weekend on Friday and Saturday nights usually from 8pm - 1am in the Glass Cube of the gallery bar and entry is free if you state the name of the artist/s participating.
