Nearly a thousand union carpenters, laborers, steamfitters, sheetmetal workers, iron workers and many other trades descended on Fort Greene, Brooklyn, to protest against Pratt Institute's refusal to employ skilled, experienced union workers in its massive new construction project. Instead, it has hired a non-union contractor with a history of paying below-market wages, which lowers local standards of living and makes it harder for Brooklyn residents to find fair pay.
