As Christians around the world mark the birth of Jesus Christ, for one Syrian village the day has a little extra significance.

Maaloula is one of very few places where Western Aramaic, the native language of Jesus, is still spoken.

But as Jane Dutton reports, despite determined efforts by residents and the government, the ancient tongue is in danger of dying out.

  • The aramaic alphabet still exists. What they forgot to mention is, that the school of Aramaic in Maloula teaches Aramaic in hebrew alphabet.

    1. Aramaic has its own alphabet.

    2. It would be much more reasonable to teach it using arabic alphabet, which people are used to.

What sense does that make?! :((

  • syria is the best country in the world:-)
