As I got into the hospital bed my cell phone rang. It was Miley.

Demi: Hey girly, I meant to call you but i've been busy. I'm sorry...Joe told me you broke up with Nick...
Miley: It's okay...how did he know?
Demi: Nick told him.
Miley: That's...
Demi: Weird, I know. How are you? What happened?
Miley: I'm fine. It wasn't working.
Demi: No, you're not fine. I can hear it in your voice, and what do you mean it wasn't working.
Miley: Alright, i'm doing terrible. This is the first time in the past 24 hours that I'm not crying. I realized we both love each other but it isn't enough. I just noticed that he is a complete jackass to people he doesn't even know. I mean sure I can be a real bitch but...
Demi: Miley, you mean well.
Miley: But does he? The way he said those things about you yesterday really got me thinking...he acted like you were a piece of dirt on the ground for him to walk all over. You're my best friend, and everything is so messed up. My boyfriend, or ex-boyfriend now, is such a terrible person and I didn't even notice it, how wrong is that? He beats Joe you know...he always jokes about how badly he hurts him.
Demi: *looks at Joe* WHAT? Sorry, we can talk about that later. Go on.
Miley: It's not just him though, Dems. Selena? Where is she? When was the last time you talked to her? Taylor RAPED her and now she is with him again. How can that be?
Demi: She loves him.
Miley: How the hell is that enough? I saw her at 7-11 the other day, buying ciggerettes and condoms. She tried to hide it but I saw and I just can't believe what she is doing to herself. She needs help. And I don't think I can be with Nick right now, not until I sort my head out.
Demi: Seriously, she was? I'm going to call her soon. And Miley...Nick is really hurting...he was...nice to Joe last night. And he was looking for comfort, he was crying.
Miley: Nick...crying?
Demi: Yes, I know he's a complete bastard but that boy is in love with you, always has been and probably always will be. And maybe now that this has all happened he is learning that he can't act the way he does all the time. You're the only one that didn't see it before and it was not because of denial, it's because you love him enough to look past his flaws. You love him for who he is and you talked of him like the sun shined out his ass. You know your relationship is worth the hurt, because no matter what happens...he is and always will be your first love.
Miley: Wow girl, that was deep.
Demi: Let's just say I have a little experience with love.
Miley: You two are way too cute sometimes.
Demi: *glancing at Joe*I know. But do you get what I mean?
Miley: Yes. And I think I know what i'm going to do. *hangs up*
Demi: *keeps looking at Joe* Thank you.
Joe: For what?
Demi: For being the best boyfriend in the entire world, for dealing with me, for loving me.
Joe: What's not to love, babe?
Demi: C'mere.
Joe: *sits next to her on the bed* You're beautiful. *moves a strand of hair behind her ear and kisses her nose*.
Dr. Stevens: *knocking*Well aren't you two love birds adorable.
Joe: *laughs and gets up to shake her hand*I'm--
DS: Joseph. Demi's told me a lot about you.
Joe: Joe, please. All good I hope?
DS: Wonderful. *turns to Demi* How are you feeling today?
Demi: (thinks; hungover!) Peachy keen.
DS: *chuckles* We have some tests to run, it's going to be a long day.
Demi: *sighs*Okay.
