2010 JET Application - out soon - check with the consulate homepage for your area

Hey gang -

I know many of you aspiring JETs are getting antsy about when the application for the 2010-2011 JET year will become available online. It's not available yet, but it will be soon.
There are still things you can be doing to prepare - work on your letter of intent and think about who you will ask to write your 2 required letters of recommendation.

1) what happens if you get to Japan and then suddenly something happens back home that you have to attend to, like a funeral, in the first month? are they sensitive to those situations?

2) have you heard of anything like the above situation happening?

3) how many vacation days do you get (not including Japanese national holidays)?

4) do you decide when you take vacation days?

briefly 1 - they would be sensitive and work with you

2 - yes

3 - most JETs get 20 paid days, but it varies

4 - yes, within reason - you have to ask, but they're flexible

Ahhhh, what the heck, they changed it from October 5th back to "by October". It's been October for 5 WHOLE DAYS already.
