Sri Lanka- THE FUNERAL OF VETERAN ARTIST MR JOE ABEYWICKREMA WILL BE HELD TOMORROW 22-9-2011

One of Sri Lanka's finest, versatile and creative film artists passed away.Mr. Abeywickrama was 84 years old and he had received local and international accolades for his stirling performances in the film industry.

I was fortunate enough to closely associate him for the past two years and frequently spoke to him over the phone inquiring about his health and well being. Whenever I spoke to him or met him at his residence in Sri Lanka I found that he was one of the most kind and unassuming persons I have ever met.

The thoughtful and compassionate words he shared with me about his cinema life and his present life still ring in my ears and those moments that I spoke to him are so precious to me and these will be in my memory always.

May our beloved Mr. Joe Abeywickrama (Joe Mahaththaya) attain nibbana...
