Gene Autry and Jimmy Long wrote this song (or updated Red River Valley in all honesty) in the 30's and it went on to become a million seller for Gene. Others to have recorded the song include Jim Reeves, Johnny Cash, The Everly Brothers and Simon and Garfunkel. The only time it actually made the Country chart was in 1980 where it reached the far from lofty heights o f position 69 by Slim Whitman. Marty must have known the song so well that I doubt he needed the sheet music when he recorded one of his idol's classic songs.
