This is a Counter to a typical Round Kick to the body or thigh for that matter. kicks to the shin should be checked. This is a great effective counter that relies majorly on Timing.

@lssrrgsn You are right, but you average enemy combatant isn't a well trained MMA fighter. Soldiers in the field fight not in shorts and bare feet, but in full combat gear and heavy boots. It slows things down a bit. If a kick is telegraphed, this is a very effective method of take down.

Very inneffective for someone who can throw fast round kicks. Can get knocked out trying to do this because the arms are down.

@xjxm very good point I didn't notice that the first time through.

I like this arguement which-in people express their understanding to each other in an attempt to better grasp the knowledge of a subject. YouTube could benefit from more arguing like this or at least less of the other kind.

@TheApokaliptic That seems good. I think that it'd need a fast, accurate read to counter in what may be a small window of opportunity. You also need to beware your own foot getting caught or a low kick that might put the opponent's foot under your leg which could lead to bad footing. I get how it'd hurt but it doesn't give you the advantage like an advancing block/catch would, though if you wanted the space it'd help. Is there a video where I could see it really happen to better understand?

@MrGarky btw if he holds your leg long (closer to the feat) you can't get him down like that. But it is actualy better ;). You just throw yourself back and kick him in the solar plexus with your other leg (no more breathing for him for the rest of the match :))
Anyway if you have his leg kick him in the standing leg, if he has your leg don't let him do it.

@MrGarky It is very difficult to get a full triangle, but you can still choke him out, or just punch or go for a gogoplata, rib crush, wrist lock ets. His punches will be very restricted in this position.
Anyway if he already has your leg he will get you down eventually, better do it in your conditions instead of letting him take a full control. If he is a muay thai fighter he will kick you in the standing leg, and trust me you realy want to avoid that, it hurts like hell.

@MrGarky Did you read the part about the high rubber guard that you still have if you fail? If you put all your weight on him like that he won't be standing but he will get on the ground with you.
Use the leg that he holds to push outwards while throwing the leg you are standing on up and behind him and pulling him with your hand by the collar (or back of tne head or the hand if he doesn't have any). Also try to push the leg that he is holding deep while he is falling. (limited space :/)

Or perhaps you're suggesting a FLYING TRIANGLE?
I suppose it's possible, though I've never seen a one-legged flying triangle. It's extremely difficult to pull off even when you have control of both feet AND you have a wrestling tie on your opponent's neck, which you won't have in this position.
Sorry, while I suppose it can be done if your opponent is clueless and slow(and you're extremely talented), I don't see it as a viable counter to the leg-catch and sweep.
