They were experiencing 'tunnel view' just like jet pilots. Incredible

The IRL cars are heavier and have less horsepower. They are running much lower speeds than the CART guys. The CART cars were also turbocharged and had lower downforce, making them much faster, but less stable. In Practice most of the drivers topped 230 MPH with top speeds being over 236 MPH and pole position was 233 MPH, compared with the IRL pole record 0f 224 MPH.

yeah, irl speeds are a joke compared to these. This is how indycar needs to be thats why franchitti, kanaan, rahal, dixon, castroneves, wilson, power, Briscoe, all are successful in indycar because they actually know how to drive a racecar. They drove cart cars in the past and have driven cars with alot of power. Honestly i couldnt see danica or even marco or alot of other indycar drivers be able to handle speeds like this.

My Father worked for Cart at that race and he had some inside info that the crashes where caused when the drivers where passing out and slamming into the wall. The tunnel vision isn't an excuse they actually seriously considered putting the racers in G-suits and letting them go as fast as they wanted. Although dangerous it would have been awesome and I still think they should do this.

With the Turbocharged engines coming in 2012 in IndyCar, hopefully they can come up with a system to keep them at, at max, 228mph. I've read that anything over 228mph at Texas, would cause the tunnel vision, then total blackout in about 7 minutes. Honestly, they should of put on a higher downforce wing config. to slow down these cars at the time.

Wasn't this the only car race in history that was cancelled because the drivers were blacking out due to G-LOC?

CART had no business at Texas. The IRL has no business there, either. It's a miracle nobody was killed there.
