Produced by the always interesting GNN.TV

THE DIAMOND LIFE, puts the spotlight on the brutal atrocities committed by the Sierra Leone rebel forces (Revolutionary United Front) and the international diamond cartels, who have been willing to pay almost any price to maintain the artificial value of their gems.

Produced in association with Witness and cut to the haunting music of Peter Gabriel, THE DIAMOND LIFE features interviews with UN officials, top political commentators and Sierra Leone television journalist-in-exile Aroun Rashid Deen.

  • you're crazy, son.

  • Diamonds are mostly worthless. Emeralds, rubies, and sapphires have more value.

  • Wow, my eyes were just baptized by Africa.

  • I already knew that. I read enough books about the Sierra Leone war and even if they did that they were still soldiers. Ha you seem to be the prejudiced one, barely knows me but yet recommends me to read a book or educate myself, I already do it daily but okay if you find me unintelligent then that's your opinion and it's cool with me.

  • You doubt that? lol...read a book for fucks sake.

The "soldiers" they killed were nothing more than a bunch of drug addicts and vagrants gathered from around Freetown who also killed civilians and couldn't really fight for shit. So stop kidding yourself. You apparently don't know shit.

Just for the record, there are very FEW rebel groups in Africa that fight with a noble accord, as most of them either go after civilians or use children as soldiers.

    You should really educate yourself.

  • Haha I doubt that. They didn't only kill civilians but they killed enough soldiers aswell that's why they even took control of Freetown in the first place, that small mercenary group might've been very experienced so it's not a shame to lose to experienced fighters. I don't support the RUF though but I do support other African rebels that try to overthrow their corrupted governments without harming civilians. There are enough groups like that in Africa that only kill off soldiers, fool.

  • lol...you're a moron. As soon as EO showed up, the RUF was destroyed in a matter of months.

One small mercenary army destroyed thousands of your tough African rebels.

Suck it bitch...the only people your tough African rebels could beat were unarmed civilians.

  • Being disorganized can be an advantage if you know how to use it anyway I wasn't talking about them being organized or not. I was saying that the so called gangstaz of the West would probably not stand a chance against terrorists from the Third World.

  • @KhemAndKurami

Actually, the RUF was extremely disorganized. The second ECOMOG forces were brought into Sierra Leone, they were pushed back into the forests extremely fast. This was also the case when the Sierra Leonian government hired Executive Outcomes, the RUF scattered and retreated.

  • Both the RUF and Sierra Leone's Army terrorized civilians. If you wanna know more about the war from a child soldier's perspective I advise you to buy the book called Memoirs of a Boy Soldier, it's my favorite book really.

  • Muthafuckaz in America and Europe are acting tough and act as if they are revolutionary or rebels but if you put these same muthafuckaz against African rebels they would scream and run like a dog with it's tail between it's legs. I would like to see that actually so I can laugh.

  • woah man, is that really true? Thats a pretty terrifying thought that a possible neighbor and countryman could have previously been involved with the RUF.
