From "Halfbreed" - 1969 - This track is converted from the
vinyl copy. It is actually Spit James on Lead Guitar, not
Miller Anderson. Sorry!!! Still'.... its a great solo!!!
Spit James aka Ian Cruickshank. Check out: http://www.gypsyjazz.co.uk

  • Been looking for this song for 10 years or more, I have not heard it since the mid 70,s. I wore my vinyl copy out playing it over and over again .Love this song, thanks for putting it out there!

  • @sleazy52 Yeah youre welcome...Youtube needed this song!!!

    Have a nice day.

    Vanu.

  • Jeezis H, it must be at least 30 years since I heard this. I used to have the vinyl but it... disappeared, you know, like things do sometimes.

The lead is definitely Spit James. I presume this was a play on Skip James of 'I'm so glad' fame. I had no idea his real name was Ian C.

Marvellous tone (for some reason I think it's an SG), great phrasing (bits of BB King in places?) and real dynamics in the structure of the solo. Being picky, his vibrato is a bit fast, but so what

    Thanks for posting

  • @fearlissimo Youre welcome...and I so agree with ye about the solo..well structured..not a dull moment....and the SG..possible..I just looked up my vinyl copy...no pic with an SG however, the band is backing him up well..!!

    Have nice day.

    Vanu.

  • This got me hooked on long slow blues with guitar soloing. The build up is excellent. Wonder where Ian Cruickshank is now ?

  • @Bluesdirections serve 2 the site mentioned in the info.

    Have a nice day.

  • Thanks for the post and thanks for Spit James. You are correct!! I love Keef and Halfbreed. relatively unknown but arguably THE BEST. What impresses me about this track is the clean/rawness of the guitar--every nuance is captured--and how the solo is constructed and continues to build.

    oh yeah!!

  • Lovely British Rock-Blues... The Brits can hold their heads up high cause they surely had some great blues singers and musicians ...

...this 1 surely tingles memos from my teenager years... tks. for this great sound... deeply appreciate it.... tata from Budapest

  • Fantastic. I had this album about 20 years ago, had forgotten all about it, just found this while surfing through YT, fantastic album it is.

  • Amazing blues! Love it! Awesome guitar player!

  • I think this is the BEST slow blues song to come out of the late 60s blues boom.... RIP Keef and Gary Thain.

  • Woodstock: Keef Hartley Band was on the bill. One of the few British acts to be invited, Hartley's band took the stage on Saturday afternoon after Santana, and their manager was approached by Martin Scorsese, who was obtaining consents to record and film the acts. With no money upfront, he refused permission and so the equipment was switched off. RIP Keef...

  • Spit James had left the band when I saw them at the Gin Mill in Godalming, but Spit played an SG junior- I met Keef who was a stunning drummer, but my heart sank when I saw Spit had 'left' the guys in the band were great to talk to this 15 year old(back then)

  • Best slow blues song EVER!!!!! Have the vinyl version, but played it so often that I'm lucky to have the cd now as well.

  • Best slow blues song EVER!!!!!

  • one of the best blues guitar solos... EVER. I still have the vinyl.
